A drug that’s been dubbed Viagra is now being dubbed a “piggy-p Accessed” drug because it’s been widely used by men to treat male sexual function problems.
But it is not the only drug being linked to erectile dysfunction.
The drug, Viagra, also sold under the brand name Cialis, has been linked to a number of other serious side effects, including low blood pressure and fainting.
In 2020, Pfizer Inc.’s Vigore was the first drug to be linked to a dangerous increase in prostate cancer in a small British hospital.
Viagra is also being sold by the popular erectile dysfunction drug, Revatio, which will be called Revive™, in the UK. It’s being branded as “Viagra Connect” by GlaxoSmithKline plc.
The UK is the first country in the world to allow erectile dysfunction treatment in men.
The drug is being sold under the brand name Levitra, which is already available on prescription in the UK.
But it’s not the only drug to be linked to erectile dysfunction.
The drug is also being used by men to treat depression.
The drug, called Zoloft, is used to treat depression and is also being sold under the brand name Prozac. It’s being branded as “Zoloft” by Pfizer plc.
Dr Berkeley Phillips, the president of Pfizer Inc. said: “Pfizer’s patent on Viagra, containing the active ingredient sildenafil, allowed the pharmaceutical giant to manufacture a new drug to treat impotence. This was the first of a new class of drugs that is designed to be used with the help of a medical professional.”
The drug, called Vyleton, was introduced to the UK in 1998.
The pill is also being marketed in the US as “Viagra Connect.”
The drug has been linked to suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts by people with major depression.
Depression is an neurological condition that affects the way your brain works, leading to changes in mood and behaviour.
Depression is a psychological condition that has a profound impact on how people think, feel, and perform. It can affect how you feel, your relationships with family, about your life, and your self-esteem.
Depression can be diagnosed using a clinical interview or a behaviour change questionnaire and psychological or biological measures tests.
It’s important to note, however, that these tests do not replace the need for you to undergo a medical examination, and it’s not recommended to you to take more than one drug at a time.
Depression can be managed with lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking, reducing alcohol intake, and stopping smoking.
Talking to your doctor will decide which drugs are best for you and your treatment. You should also talk to your doctor if you have any concerns about any treatment or medications you are taking.
It’s important to remember that erectile dysfunction affects a huge number of men, and the treatment options available to help you.
Viagra Connect is not a cure for erectile dysfunction, but it can help improve erectile function in some men.
Viagra Connect will only work when you are sexually aroused. It’s not a treatment for depression and is not a substitute for exercise or other health measures.
It’s not recommended to use Viagra Connect more than once a day, but you can take it with a full glass of water and at least four hours before sex.

On 14 March 2023, the UK Medicines regulator approved an application to reclassify the erectile dysfunction medication Cialis. When marketed asCialis Together(tadalafil 10mg), it will be a ‘P’ (pharmacy) medication, and so available ‘over the counter’ in pharmacies – see. This follows the 2018, ‘P’ classification of (sildenafil 50mg) which has been available OTC, without a prescription, since then.
This decision is good news for men’s health …. Erectile dysfunction can be a debilitating condition, so it’s important men feel they have fast access to quality and legitimate care
Dr Laura Squire, MHRA’s Chief Officer for Healthcare, Quality and Access
Unfortunately, there is a strong black market in the UK for ED medicines, which are often unlicensed or counterfeit. UK Border Force and the MHRA seize millions of pounds of these fake products from criminals annually. This new classification of tadalafil 10mg will enable men who suffer from ED to obtain it safely from a local pharmacy.
Sanofi, the drug manufacturer, is expected to launch Cialis Together later in 2023. Cialis Together will be available to purchase in pharmacies without a prescription by men over 18 with erectile dysfunction. Cialis Together tablets will contain 10mg tadalafil and the maximum pack size will be 8 tablets. Other doses and pack sizes of Cialis and tadalafil will still be available on prescription through doctors and specially trained pharmacists. Before purchase in a pharmacy there must be an assessment with a pharmacist, who will check that Cialis Together is appropriate and safe, or whether consultation with a GP is necessary.
Men suffering with ED will have another treatment option with the convenience of purchasing it in their local pharmacy, including pharmacies found inside supermarkets (eg. Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s). The pharmacist will ask some health questions, may check blood pressure, and will advise on treatment with Cialis Together or Viagra Connect, or the need to consult a GP. Pharmacies usually have a private room for such discussions.
Cialis Together is a 10mg tadalafil product for use at least 30 minutes prior to anticipated sexual activity. Its effects can last. It is not recommended for daily use. The maximum recommended dose of Cialis Together will be one tablet in 24 hours. Prescription Cialis and tadalafil will still be available at different doses.
Dr Fox welcomes the wider access to ED medication for men that Cialis Together classified as a ‘P’ OTC medication will provide. We at Dr Fox are aware of the difficulties men have in discussing ED with their GPs and in accessing ED medication. We know that Cialis is effective and safe for most men and this change provides another option for obtaining ED treatment. Pharmacists are health professionals who are able to give ED advice but they will also know when to refer men who would benefit from a doctor’s assessment. ‘P’ medicines can also be supplied on prescription, and we will offer Cialis Together, when available, alongside our other competitively priced ED products.

Men in the UK will soon be able to buy Viagra over the counter for the first time after the erectile dysfunction drug was reclassified.
Those aged 18 and over will no longer need to see a GP for a prescription after the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced that it is changing the status of Viagra Connect tablets so they can be sold in pharmacies following a conversation with a pharmacist.
US pharmaceutical company Pfizer said it is working on plans to launch the non-prescription version of the medicine in the UK in the spring of 2018. A four-pack of the sildenafil tablets will cost around £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99. Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day. Sildenafil is already available on NHS prescription free of charge.
The decision to reclassify the drug follows a public consultation, the MHRA said. Pharmacists will be able to determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and can give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine, potential side effects and assess if further consultation with a general practitioner is required.
“The move to make Viagra Connect more widely accessible will encourage men to seek help within the healthcare system and increase awareness of erectile dysfunction.”
Mick Foy, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency
But some men, including those with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure or those taking certain “interacting medicines”, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
It is hoped that making the drug more widely available will mean than men who may have not previously sought help will be more likely to do so. Health officials also hope the move will also help steer people away from buying drugs websites operating illegally.
The MHRA said that erectile dysfunction medicines are a “popular target” for criminals selling unlicensed and counterfeit medicines, over the past five years the Agency has seized more than £50m of unlicensed and counterfeit erectile dysfunction medicines.
“This decision is good news for men’s health,” said Mick Foy, MHRA’s group manager in vigilance and risk management of medicines. “The move to make Viagra Connect more widely accessible will encourage men to seek help within the healthcare system and increase awareness of erectile dysfunction.
“Erectile dysfunction can be a debilitating condition, so it’s important men feel they have fast access to quality and legitimate care, and do not feel they need to turn to counterfeit online supplies which could have potentially serious side effects.”
Dr Berkeley Phillips, UK medical director at Pfizer, said: “The availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies from next year will offer men who are eligible for the product a new and convenient way to access sildenafil, a commonly prescribed treatment for erectile dysfunction.
“We understand some men may avoid seeking support and treatment for this condition, so we believe giving them the option to talk to a pharmacist and buy Viagra Connect could be a real step forward in encouraging more men into the healthcare system.
“As erectile dysfunction may be a sign of an underlying condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease, there could also be a wider benefit to public health in the long term. We hope that this forthcoming new opportunity to purchase a genuine treatment via pharmacy will also reduce the likelihood of men turning to potentially ineffective and dangerous counterfeits from illicit sources.”
